The giftware industry alone is worth approximately £8 billion at the point of sale, and is adapting fast to meet increasing competition worldwide along with the changing demands of the global consumer. Licensed product retail sales are an increasingly important aspect of the UK gift industry and are worth an estimated $120 billion worldwide. The leather goods industry is worth some £800 million, and offers a comprehensive range of products in the global marketplace, whilst Britain's 1,500-plus jewellery manufacturers are responding to increased demand in many of its diverse product areas, with gold accounting for a significant proportion of UK jewellery exports.
