Creating new business models : feed back to government on red tape

Have you got a disruptive business model that was foiled by the system? If so, the Prime Minister wants to hear about it.

The government, via its Red Tape Challenge website, is looking for feedback from new businesses whose models do not fit with existing rules and regulations

David Cameron has acknowledged that new business models - particularly those that involve doing things differently - may fall foul of regulation that were intended for another age, or for another purpose entirely. The Government wants to ensure that the UK regulatory system is fit for purpose, and is not holding back disruptive new companies. From November to January, the Disruptive Business Models theme will be live on the Red Tape Challenge website for comments.

Red Tape Challenge has designed a crowd-sourcing process that allows anyone, anywhere to flag up regulatory issues that may be holding back disruptive new business models.

The team want to source experiences from entrepreneurs, investors, and businesses who have run into problems setting up an innovative enterprise that does not replicate other established business models, or ways of working. Examples could include those who have encountered problems setting up a digital company, or a technology start-up business struggling to find practical support and is surrounded by red tape.

In particular, the Government wants to hear:

- What was your experience of setting up a new business model?

- What specific problems did you run into?

- What were the rules and regulations that got in your way?

- What part of the system held you back?

After 10 weeks of collating ideas, the Government will then work with contributors to translate good ideas into action. It's intended that the process will help not only to reduce the overall burden of regulation, but also ensure that we develop better regulation too.
